Most often, you will find one of the two designers behind the counter, Sissal (of Shisa Brand) or Jóhanna (of Steinum). Occasionally Sanna, daughter of Jóhanna, or Ingigerð, Sissal’s mother will greet you though.
Jóhanna is a Knitwear designer and Central Saint Martins graduate. Jóhanna founded her brand, STEINUM, back in 2009. Her knowledge of different knitting techniques is extensive and having studied in London she perfects the English language. Before returning to her home country back in 2016, she has been living in Denmark and Ukraine. She gets her hand knitted items produced in Ukraine, in close cooperation with the Mercy.biz organization, which supports and aids women in the local communities of Western Ukraine.
Sissal is self-taught in this line of work, she has a Masters in Business and has a background in marketing and tourism. She is probably one of the biggest Japan fan you’ll find on the Faroe Islands. Sissal founded Shisa Brand in 2012, and you will easily see what influence Japan, the Faroe Islands and Greenland has had on her style. Don’t hesitate to ask Sissal for ideas on what to see and do whilst on the Faroe Islands.
